Last Chance
‘MACBETH IN THE OTHER ROOM’; closes on Saturday. Dave McCracken has pared down Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” to around 80 minutes, a single set and three characters: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Banquo. He’s also made the play into a carnal hothouse with a homoerotic relationship between Macbeth and Banquo that seems forced and does nothing to illuminate the character of Macbeth (1:20). Dionysus Theater’s L’il Peach, 270 West 36th Street , (646) 621-5171, grapevinetickets.com. (Rachel Saltz)
‘HAUNTED HOUSE’; closes on Saturday. Worlds collide as Internet magazine geeks visit a crumbling haunted-house attraction in Long Branch, N.J., in this play by Daniel Roberts, staged by Audax Theater Group. It’s a rough collision for the audience: the characters are such polar opposites that the play doesn’t have the rhythm needed to make Mr. Roberts’s witty material land cleanly. Still, a brash voyage into the tawdry, with characters that stick (1:30). Irish Arts Center, 553 West 51st Street, Clinton , (212) 868-4444, smarttix.com. (Neil Genzlinger) |
